ABOUT Driftnote:

Driftnote (Omar Rivero), born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1980, is a musician and multimedia artist whose work is centred around improvisation, interactivity, and audio-visual installations. He studied electronic composition, ethnomusicology and jazz theory at York University in Toronto. He first established himself in Toronto's hip-hop scene while doing production for artists like Shad and Zaki Ibrahim. He has been a session guitarist for many projects like J'envioe (Quebec), Scattered Clouds (Ottawa), Daughters of the Revolution (Ottawa). He is also an interactive software programmer and is known for his interactive sound installations that have been featured at Massive Party, an AGO yearly event; Nature Nocturne, a night of art at the Canadian Museum of Nature; and in May 2019, Driftnote was the Projection Designer for FAWN Chamber Creative’s Dora Award nominated opera-ballet, Pandora. He is interested in questions of cultural erasure, systemic oppression, queerness, race and identity in the African/Indigenous diaspora, and the materiality of these as they are embodied by subjects. How is information archived and activated by its audience? Driftnote prioritizes the process, the making of, rather than the end result. His work takes into account how data is embodied, reconstructed, edited and reinterpreted to be presented as finished work and by exhibiting the process he attempts to reveal its invisible labour.

FAWN is continuing to raise money for two charities during each of these concerts, including The AFC and Friends of Ruby. See below to learn more about these two vital organizations.

Friends of Ruby (http://friendsofruby.ca/calendar.pdf)

Friends of Ruby was founded by Egale Canada in 2014 to meet the needs of LGBTQI2S youth. Their drop-in space, you’ll find meals, activities, support groups and community, including a Tuesday drop-in time reserved for BIPOC youth. They offer barrier-free one-on-one counselling, support with gender identity or transition, and help accessing housing, health care, and employment.

The AFC (https://afchelps.ca/covid-19-guide/)

The AFC is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry. Through compassionate and confidential support, we help Canadian entertainment professionals maintain their health, dignity and ability to work. The AFC helps entertainment professionals when they are at their most vulnerable due to injury, illness or other personal hardship. Through their Emergency Financial Aid Program, they provide short-term emergency financial assistance for essential household bills and costs that cannot otherwise be paid.
